Default What's the best place to take your car for new brake pads?

I've always taken my car to pepboys and it seems like the brake pads only last a year at best. What's up with that? When you get a new car the brake pads last for a few years so why can't replacement brake pads last just as long? Do they use cheap pads or something? The funny part is Pepboys has a warranty for the pads but not for the cost of labor which is where most of the cost comes in. But I digress.. Can anyone tell me the best place to go to get brake pads that will last? thanks

It's an (unregulated) fact that the fast change brake places use off-shore brake rotors and very low life brake pads. It's up to you to go to an independent mechanic and specify American, Canadian or British brake rotors such as Wagner, AC-Delco, NAPA's best, Car Quest's best or EBC Slotted and dimpled units. Stay away from Auto Zone's rotors as they come from Taiwan As for pads, stay away from semi-metallic or full metallic pads as they positively eat rotors to an early death. Go on line and select Hawk, EBC, Wagner or any brand of ceramic pad. Oddly, All Toyota cars come from the factory with organic pads. They live 60,000-80,000 miles and ar by far the cleanest pads going and do no damage to the rotors. Most of the products above can be ordered from: autopartswarehouse.com, tirerack.com, partstrain.com, etc.
