1983 buick skylark problems?

got an automatic 83 buick skylark and i turned it off and took key out of ignition with it in drive. when i hopped in car next morning realized my mistake put it in park started the car but now it wont go in reverse. what could be wrong?

That doesn't sound right, it shouldn't have a problem in doing that. You should check the linkage under the car.
