On some cars like the foxbody Mustang you can disable the daytime running lights by disconnecting the wiring from the switch. Think you should be able to do the same with your Corolla. Its worth a try.

I found a DIY which can guide you on how to turn off daytime headlights at lightsout.org. It's for a 2009 model but perhaps the toyota corolla parts in both years are generally similar so that could eventually help you out.
