Default Chrysler Pacifica 2005 liftgate issue?

I went grocrey shoping and loaded my vehicle up in the back of my '05 Chrysler Pacifica and when I got home to unload, the tailgate would not open. The manual states the gate won't open if the car is in gear, which it's not, and also states that there is an emergency latch access in the snap-in cover located on the leftgate trim panel, which I can remove cause the gate is blocking the trim? Anyone seen this or have a solution without me having to drive this thing in for repair?

It's probably a sensor, you might check for codes in the computer.
