Default 1992 Ford v8 MAFS upgrade using factory Ford parts?

I would like to upgrade the air intake system of my 92 t-bird but don't want to spend $500+ to do it. First on my list is the Mass air flow sensor and a reusable cone filter. I have a much larger mafs from a 92 ford aerostar (6 cyl, 3.0L) It looks like the plug is the same and that it would bolt up with little fabrication (only on attaching it to the cone filter). What problems will i run in to swapping it? I know that many after market units re use the ford electronics. if i unbolt the aerostar electronics and bolt on my t-bird one, will this MAFS work?

Also- let me know of any other ford parts that can be cheaply acquired that will make a reasonable improvement in performance.

gt-40 heads and cobra intakes i already know about.

Thanks

what makes you think re-using a aerostar 3.0 MAS(Mass Airflow Sensor, not Mass Air Flow Sensor) will give you better flow than the stock t-bird? IF a 3.0 even COULD take in as much air, (it CANT) the sensor would not be calibrated for that ammount. this is just a bad idea, there is nothing wrong with useing the stock t-bird one. it would actually be better in this case.

Let's not split hairs on the terminology (MAFS or MAS). We all know what he's talking about.

All Ford mass air meters aren't the same, I'd recommend getting one meant for use with your particular car.
