Default 1990 ford ranger gas pump?

trucks been running fine. then choked while i was driving in 1st up-hill slowly, but didn't cut off. thought it was close to being out of gas (fuel gauge doesn't work). a few hrs. later i started it up and it was obviously having trouble getting fuel, but never choked off. drove down the hill and when i reached the highway and gave it gas it sputtered and soon choked off. started again trying to make it to the gas station, and less than a mile later same thing. got gas...nothing. changed filter...nothing. sounds like it wants to start, didn't even with startter spray. fuse under the hood is good. checked filtyer again today and there is no gas coming from the tank. any ideas?
