Default Why do so many semi trucks have Oregon license plates?

Everywhere I travel, even on the East Coast MOST trucks have Oregon license plates. No one ever seems to know the answer why. But then again, I don't know any truck drivers!

It depends on what the company is, the company is based out of a certain state and all their trucks will have corresponding plates.

Default Truck Tags

Some states insist on a truck purchasing their tag and displaying it in order to operate in that state, even when they are based elsewhere and only enter that state once in a while. It occurs to me that the rules for Oregon may be very strict.

The other idea is more strange, ie, that registering the truck in Oregon saves them money (there is a reason most freighters that ply the ocean are flagged in places like Liberia, and it has to do with no questions asked and cheap rates).

I will start to take note of this in the future, though.
