Default Car a/c don't work recharge

I just got my 1997 eagle talon, and they guy said the a/c worked very well, but it didn't work at all.

He said it just needed recharged. I was wondering how many cans I need to use?

I used 3 small cans, and 1 big can so far, and the air is still hot that is coming out of the a/c vent.

It would be nice if I had some kind of gauge to see where the freon level is at.

I had the exact same problem with my 1991 Ford Mustang. I also tried using cans to recharge the a/c but found it did not work very well. I purchased six cans over the internet and used all six. Initially it seemed to work but the air was really not very cold. After the first couple of hours, it seemed to lose all of its charge and it was the same as if I had not used the cans at all. I figured I must have had a leak in the system somewhere.

I ended up going to a refrigerator repair company. They had all the proper tools and did the job right on the spot from one of their vans. The guy doing the work first checked the system for leaks, then flushed and recharged the entire a/c system for me. It's been perfect ever since with ice cold air. He told me recharge cans just do not work and are a waste of money. And thats been my experience. It took him an hour to do the entire job, cost me a total of $70 and it was well worth it.

As for the guage, I think you would be able to rent one from a rent-all place but as I found out, it might be cheaper and a whole lot better having the job done by a refrigeration company as I did.

Ok. Thanks for the advice. My parents had a few cars which the recharge kits worked wonderfully on, but all cars are different with different issues.
