Default My first car

I had a request for pics of cars. In rummaging around I found an old picture of my first car. A 1948 Cadillac model 75. I paid $350.00 for it in 1965. The pic is in my public album and I will try to add it to this response.

That is one cool looking ride for your first car! It would be worth something if you still had her today. Thanks for posting the picture.

It was a great car. There were only 499 made; mine was number 444. I recently saw one in the background of a shot on "Chasing Classic Cars" on HBO. I have no idea what it might be worth now. I sold it in 1972 for $1000.00.

Curt,

I have no idea how much it would be worth today either but most likely much more than $1,000, if it was in decent shape especially with only 449 made. The old caddy's like your 1948 were quite the car in their day. A true classic!

It was in good shape. The only real problem I was having were the power windows. The windows were hydraulic with a cylinder in each door. Brake fluid was used with a pump under the hood. The lines had started to leak and, of course, brake fluid made a real mess of things very fast.

Cool

Just realized I made an error in a post. "Chasing Classic Cars" was on Discovery HD Theater, not HBO.

Just thought I would expand a little on why I sold the Cadillac. When the power window lines began to leak I had just gotten out of college and had very little money. I realized that if I kept the car its condition would likely deteriorate badly before I could afford to fix it up. I decided that rather than let that happen I would look for a collector that would take care of it properly; found one and sold it to him.

I don't have good pictures for the majority of the cars I have owned. I didn't have a camera in those days; it was before digital cameras. Other than the 48 Caddy, which is already posted, I will post any I find.
