How hard is it to do a V8 swap in an 1986 Isuzu Trooper?

those are easy ones to put a v-8 in go to a parts store and ask them to order you a mount kit to swap it over with,you wont have the 4 wheel drive part unless you use an adapter for the transmission or just change it over to a Chevy set up,but doing one of those isn't bad at all,I'm telling you though,you think the gas mileage is bad now wait until you drop a v-8 in it,it will go way down hill,been there and done it,owned one for about 5 years 3 of them with the v-8 in it,good luck.

It will not be very easy, anything can be done with a torch & a welder though.
