Have a 4cylinder 1995 Jeep Wrangler YJ. Want to put a inline 6 or V8 in it.

Would like some advise please.? I like to go 4x4 and muddin. I in Colorado plan go to Moab every now and then. I want to either put an Inline 6 then do intake on it or put a V8 in it. I plan on putting about 4-6 inch lift. I want to make it so i can still use it as a daily use so preferably 4inch. i use my jeep to tow a four wheeler around the state to ride too. So i am looking for some advise on whether go with 6cylinder or V8. Want to keep the gas milage desently good as well. For gas prices are creeping back up to $3 a gallon. If you have any other questions on what I wanting to do with it and if you have any feed back that would be great. Thank you Justin

Get an old donor vehicle with a 350 Chevy - 4 bolt mains.

You can search the web for adapter kits - and complete swap kits.

There are a few to choose from.

But the Chevy 350 will always be the best choice.

The cheapest way to do this would be to sell your Jeep, and buy another that already has the 6 cylinder.

A V8. You will get better performance and MPG. Also some V8s are lighter than the I6 like a Ford 302. With a V8 swap it would be in your best interest to change the axles. Ford 9", DANA 44 or 60. A V8 will snap those DANA 35s while under a heavy load.
As far a what V8 that's up to you. GM(Chevy) are a dime a dozen. Parts for them are easy to come by. Cheaper for conversion and they are reliable. Ford there is only one choice to me and that is the 5.0/302. 225 horse 300 ft lbs of torque. Long lasting engines great fuel economy....as far as a V8 is concerned and won't weigh down your front end.

A I6 would be easier to do and your drive terrain can handle the I6 hp. With a I6 swap all you need is: engine, trans, and brain. Trans choice is up to you do you want auto or manual. If you go with the manual then I'd recommend a Novak 3500 or 4500. Both unit have a great low 1st gear. People will recommend to go with a stroker 4.6 or 4.7. Nothing wrong w/ these engines, but they do require 91+ oct gas.

Now as for your 4-6 in lift. This sounds like you want to run 33-35 in tires. You will need to upgrade your from the DANA 30/35 found on your YJ no matter what engine you run.
