2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo -- Squeak??

I have a 00' JGC laredo 4.0l I6 engine. w/ 73000 miles. 4x4. Whenever it put the car into reverse it kind of makes a clunk type noise and the back end makes a squeak noise. What could this be? a bad u joint possibly??

U-joint is one of the possibilites. The rear end gears is yet another jeep weakness.
