Hello guys.. Hopefully you guys can help me out.

I have a 2000 Kia Sephia in which i have for a year..Its runs great , had minor problems with it since obtaing the car.Last night i was ready to drive home when my shift bUtton... I belive you call it the shift lever button(where you push the button to shift in P N D 1 2) had gotten so hard .I had to push hard myself.It will also get stuck then spring back into place.Never had this problem..Can you tell me what is the problem.What can I do?The cost of fix.Just needs some answers.
