There's a plastic part internal to the motor's gears that is designed to break apart if the motor gets overloaded. I just replaced mine on a Ford Crown Vic and had to remove the inner door panel, then raise the window manually and remove the motor. Or you can replace the whole motor for $60. But the job wasn't easy. Total cost for a shop to repair (not the dealer) is $250.

Is it just a wire? Well, I agree more with Bobweb, no offense there mate. The whole motor now costs about $70 to $75 at lincoln parts store .Good thing, the labor didn't get into much inflation

Update on the price of the whole motor.I just saw that it's priced at $75 at lincoln parts shop. The labor, not sure still.
