Car troubles with 1997 Mercury Sable

Every time I stop or place my car in park my RPM's go up dramatically, sometimes close to 3000. Also when I put my car in park, my engine sounds like, and feels like its going to fall out. What could these problems be? Is it going to be expensive to fix them?

There is an idle sensor that may be bad also check that you idle hasn't been adjusted too high.
