I have a 1999 4 door Tahoe. About 143k miles.
I've replaced BOTH the transfer case encoder AND the front axle shifting solenoid to no avail. I've drained and replaced the fluid in the front differential. Ive checked voltage to the solenoid and encoder, both have plenty. When I turn on the ignition, the four lights for the push button 4x4 turn on for a few seconds and then go dark. I changed the bulb behind the dash. My "service 4x4" light remains on. I've used the OBD II code checker, NOTHING because I don't think it checks for that. Last resort is taking it to the GM Dealer. I don't know what to do next. My transfer case is fine. It seems like it would be something electrical ssince Ive pretty much replaced everything mechanical. HELP! |

older Chevrolet's also use vacuum from the engine to engage the 4x4 newer Chevy's like your Tahoe may do the same thing you may have a leak with a old vacuum line you could call your dealership and ask if your Tahoe uses a vacuum to engage the 4x4 they should tell you free of charge but be careful they will try and dupe you into bringing it in by saying that it could be anything.
